Acute Respiratory Infection Hubs

Pennine GP Alliance run the Acute Respiratory Infection Hubs in Calderdale for our patients who present with flu or cold-like symptoms. This means you could get an urgent same day appointment.

SPLW – Social Prescribing Link Workers

SPLWs offer non-medical holistic support for social factors which impact health and wellbeing. Examples include isolation, financial worries, unemployment, anxiety, stress, and weight loss. SPLWs listen to people’s concerns and work with them to create a personalised care plan. The role of an SPLW is to link people to services, groups, activities, and information which may help to improve their situation

FCP – First contact Physiotherapist

FCP’s work within our GP surgery as a first point of contact to patients with joint, spinal back and neck pain; also, possible problems with muscles ligaments or sports injuries to name a few. FCP will assess and diagnose, then refer to appropriate departments if appropriate.

Flu Vaccinations

We will be providing bookable clinics for flu vaccinations for those patients who are eligible. Vaccination against pneumococcal and shingles for eligible age groups are offered in accordance with national guidance. If you are unsure please ask to speak to our Practice Nurse.

Nasal flu to give children aged 2-3 are also available with the practice nurse on a bookable basis.


Eligible Patients:

  • Are 65 years old or over,
  • Pregnant,
  • Have certain medical conditions (listed below),
  • Are living in a long-stay residential care home or another long stay care facility,
  • Receive carer allowance or main carer for someone elderly or disabled whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill,
  • Live with someone who is at high risk of coronavirus (on the NHS shielded patient list) or you expect to be with them on most days over winter.

Non-NHS Services

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges.

Examples include the following:

  • Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
  • Insurance claim forms.
  • Prescriptions for taking medication abroad.
  • Private sick notes.
  • Vaccination certificates.

The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
 

Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to complete the form below, you can also collect one of these from the surgery. Once you have submitted your travel form our Practice Nurse will check if you require any travel vaccinations. If you require any vaccinations we will contact you to arrange an appointment.

It is important to complete the form as early as possible – at least 6 weeks before you travel – These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Phlebotomy

We have a phlebotomist that comes in to surgery once a week to do a Blood clinic, these appointment are pre bookable. Please call the surgery to book an appointment.

Health Checks

Any patient can book for a routine check with the nurse if they feel that they would like one. Such a screen would include height / weight / blood pressure / urine examination, as well as other tests appropriate to specific individuals.

All patients over 40 who are eligible can book an appointment.

Health Care Assistant Clinic

The Health Care Assistant is trained in weight management, blood pressure, phlebotomy (taking blood), Flu/Pneumo/B12/Shingles injections, NHS health checks, ECG’s and breath tests.
